ABOUT
The 2025 Fresh Awards will recognise NSW and ACT greengrocers across a range of categories.
The process is as follows:
- Previous registrations roll-over to this year. If you’re new to the program or require a change to your existing registration details, please email Shirlene Ronniger at mco@sydneymarkets.com and include your business name and address, contact person, phone number and email address.
- All applicants will be mystery shopped 3 times from November 2024 – April 2025 without prior notice
- Semi-finalists are mystery shopped on one more occasion to help determine the finalists
- Finalists will be announced in May, 2025
Applicants will be judged on:
- Store appearance
- Customer service
- Produce quality, range and freshness
- Product knowledge
- Merchandising and branding
Participating businesses will be given a copy of the first two rounds of mystery shopping reports which includes the shopper's feedback, comments and observations.
GREENGROCER AWARD CATEGORIES
The 2025 Fresh Awards will recognise greengrocers across a range of categories.
- GREENGROCER OF THE YEAR - This prestigious award will be presented to the fresh fruit and vegetable retailer finalist who achieves the highest-ranking average score across all sections of the mystery shopping rounds.
- Best Small Business - This award recognises a small* business that achieves the highest-ranking average score across all sections of the mystery shopping criteria throughout the judging period.
- Best Medium Business - This award recognises a medium* business that achieves the highest-ranking average score across all sections of the mystery shopping criteria throughout the judging period.
- Best Large Business - This award recognises a large* business that achieves the highest-ranking average score across all sections of the mystery shopping criteria throughout the judging period.
- Best Extra Large Business - This award recognises an extra-large* business that achieves the highest-ranking average score across all sections of the mystery shopping criteria throughout the judging period.
- Service Excellence - This award recognises a business for outstanding customer service, presented to the business that achieves the highest-ranking average score in customer service across all sections of the mystery shopping rounds.
- Retail Presentation - This award recognises a business for excellence in store presentation and appearance, awarded to the business that achieves the highest-ranking average score in retail presentation across all sections of the mystery shopping rounds.
- Knowledge in Action - This award recognises a business for its proactive approach to educating customers about fresh produce. It will be presented to the business that achieves the highest-ranking average score in product knowledge across all sections of the mystery shopping rounds.

KEY DATES
- Finalists will be announced May, 2025.
- Winners will be announced at the 2025 Fresh Awards on Friday 18th July, 2025.
